Additional Linksys WRT330N Wireless-N Gigabit Gaming Router Information

The Wireless-N Gigabit Gaming Router is really four devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. We've also included a Network Optimizer that applies various Quality of Service (QoS) techniques to your network traffic to make sure that time-sensitive applications like online and local network gaming run smoothly. It automatically determines what data is time-sensitive and what isn't, and prioritizes delivery of that data to its destination, ensuring the best-possible performance for the various types of data that go through your network. The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 4 times farther than standard Wireless-G.With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds up to 12 times as fast as standard Wireless-G.

What Customers Say About Linksys WRT330N Wireless-N Gigabit Gaming Router:

There are some that have said that it won't connect to the internet or it is "sketchy" at best. Here is something you may not know. This is because this is a gaming router so you are expected to create your own routing table. This router is awesome. By default, Dynamic Routing is turned off. If you turn Dynamic Routing on then this router will most likely work wonders for you. Once I had it setup it immediately gave me an open NAT for XBox Live. Speed is good and the only major hurdle was setting it up.

Now I'm looking at "upgrading" to another router.and will likely go with the D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Dualband Draft 802.11n Gaming Router instead. I've had this router for about 9 months now and it works great with my XBOX 360 using a wired connection. However, I upgraded from the Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster and don't notice any significant speed or signal strength improvements that justify the $200 price tag.

Now I'm still within the replacement window, but this is not exactly the most comfortable situation to be in - How long is this going to take, and how long is the rest of my family besides me not going to be able to use the internet. I got pissed and demanded a choice in the matter if I'm going to be "downgraded", and made sure to tell them I wanted a WRT54GL instead, as I know the custom firmware will do its job and give me a good router. This router worked really well for quite some time. It worked well for a year and a half, but now has some serious problems. They don't even have this router anymore, and when the router they told me they'd replace it with was a WRT310N, a router worth $60 less than the price I paid for the WRT330N and no external antenna. 2) A dozen daily short disconnects caused by my printer being connected via ethernet, removing it solved the problem. So basically, my router is completely failing at it's job.

That, and their tech-support is horrible. It's just not right, so 3 stars.

Plugged into the cable modem, itself, flawless 15000kbps connection. I'm not too happy with this device, which is certainly more expensive than other routers, failing in less than two years.

The wireless strengths is admirable and virtually the same speed as the wired connection. So now on top of my connection woes, my family is gonna have to go a week or two without internet.

Look elsewhere. I've checked out everything else in the "picture" of my network and I am 100% certain that 1) The router is slowing my internet connection by 60%, seemingly capping downstream at 5000kbps.

3) Unable to even upgrade the firmware anymore, as the page will allow me to select the file but responds with absolutely nothing.

Finally, I decided to make the switch and chose the gaming one because of the Gigabit connection. It actually has a faster connection wirelessly than with the Ethernet card (10/100).I'm very happy with the purchase, and once resolved the problems of the kids' computer connection (which ended up with a Linksys WUSB300N Wireless-N USB Network Adapter,) the network has worked with no problems at all for the last 14 months. The only good thing I got for waiting was a better price, since it dropped a little when I bought it. This was mainly due to the reviews the Linksys routers were getting.

The network was up and running without any problems. But I have to say, I recommend this product without hesitation. My laptop has an Intel N card and connected with no problem.

I wanted a draft N router to upgrade my "G" network, but it took me a while to take action. Today, I think I would go that route instead. The installation was easy and quick; basically, similar to the one I performed on the old Linksys G router. My next router will be a Linksys N draft with VPN.

I had Linksys and wanted to keep within the brand, since my experience with it has always been a good one. At that time (a year ago,) I didn't think the data-lynk version was a better choice.

Ive had a number of routers including netgear and dlink and other models of linksys, this one is by far the fastest and best quality router ive had, the only thing i wish i could do is have the ability to put on an omni directional antenna to boost the signal to cover my entire house (3 floors) with full bars, but for the money this is by far the BEST router around.
